NURTURE INEC TO SUSTAIN NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY!- MACEBUH
The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has been described as the creature of Nigeria’s hopes and fear. Dr. Stanley Macebuh a veteran journalist and pioneer Managing Director of the Guardian made this observation at an interface between the Commission and the Bureau Chiefs of major Newspapers stressing the need for the Nigerian Media to forge a culture of consensus on national issues.
He disclosed that such a consensus could easily be forged when members of the Media community interacted amongst themselves as well as with policy makers.
Speaking further, Dr. Macebah pointed out that the Media held the greatest promise for Democracy, because in a docile community such as ours, only the vibrant member which happens to be the Media holds the greatest promise to sustain democracy.
