Staff audit and sanctions to come after Tribunal’s work
As soon as the two remaining cases pending before Election Tribunals are resolved, the Independent National Electoral Commission would earnestly set in motion the task of auditing and sanctioning its Staff who committed electoral offences.Addressing Participants of Course 31 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) recently, professor Maurice Iwu, explained that the Commission was deliberately waiting for the Election petition Tribunals to finish adjudicating over peitions brought before them before auditing Staff who committed Electoral offences.
He went on to state that if the Commission had proceeded to sanction erring staff, before the end of the Tribunal’s work, it’s actions would either have been politicised or or mis construed as witch hunting.
The INEC boss explained that such accusations would have distracted the Tribunals and engender unnecessary confusion.
