GUIDELINES FOR CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION/DISTRIBUTION OF PERMANENT VOTERS CARDS
A. GUIDELINES FOR CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION The Continuous Voter Registration exercise is to provide opportunity
for those Nigerians who for one reason or the other could not register
during the last nationwide registration exercise i.e. those who have turned
18 years of age, the returnees etc.
Eligibility for Registration as a Voter
A person shall be qualified for registration if such a person:
· is a citizen of Nigeria;
· has reached the age of 18 years or above on Registration day;
· is ordinarily resident in, work in or an indigene of the Local
Government Area or registration Area where the Registration Centre is
located;
· is not subject to any legal incapacity to vote under any laws, rules or
regulation in force in Nigeria;
· presents himself / herself to the Registration Officers of INEC for
registration as a voter with any of the following documents;
§ birth or baptismal certificate;
§ national passport or national identity card;
§ driver’s licence
§ any other document that will prove the identity, age and
nationality of the person
Where can a person register?
For the purpose of the Continuous Voter Registration, the registration
centre is the INEC Local Government Office. Before a prospective voter
is registered, the registration area and the polling unit where the person
resides, works and is an indigene would be determined by the
Registration Officers.
Registration Period
Registration which is a continuous exercise shall commence from
January 8, 2008 between 9:00 am and 3:00pm daily, from Monday to
Friday.
B. DISTRIBUTION OF PERMANENT VOTER CARDS
The distribution of the permanent voters’ cards to those who registered
for the 2007 General Elections shall commence from January 8, 2008
and shall be carried out at the ward level.
